absentee vote

The 2020 United States presidential election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2020. It will be the 59th quadrennial presidential election. Voters will select presidential electors who in turn will vote on December 14, 2020, to either elect a new president and vice president or reelect the incumbents Donald Trump and Mike Pence respectively. The series of presidential primary elections and caucuses were held from February to August 2020. This nominating process is an indirect election, where voters cast ballots selecting a slate of delegates to a political party's nominating convention, who then, in turn, elect their party's nominees for president and vice president.

We are now only 45 days away from the Presidential election. Absentee voting for the General election begins TODAY, Sept. 18th, 2020 in South Dakota where they will start mailing out absentee ballots to registered voters. PLEASE NOTE: the Voter Registration deadline is October 19, 2020.

It is very important for each and every person who is eligible to vote, to exercise that right for this very important election. Our world is at a crossroads, and in turmoil, so whatever happens during this election, it will be the path we will take for the next 4 years and beyond. There are several ways to vote and with the pandemic on the rise, we need to do it the way we feel best for the safety of ourselves and others. Whether you do it in person, by mail or absentee ballot, there are many workable choices to be sure that your voice is heard. This is not only important on the national level, but just as important on the state and local levels as well. If you choose to vote by mail or by absentee ballot, you need to be sure to vote early enough so that your county official receives it on or before Election Day (Nov. 3rd) to be counted. You can go to the South Dakota Secretary of State’s website to check on the status of your vote after you have sent it in and that it was received by the county official to be counted if you are a registered voter. For information on voting, go to the SD Secretary of State’s website which will guide you on how to register to vote, how to locate your polling place, requesting an absentee ballot and to learn more about early voting options for South Dakota.

YOUR VOICE COUNTS, PLEASE VOTE!! It’s your constitutional right to vote, and now is the time to act on that right at this very important and crucial time in our lives!!

Cathy Berg, Executive Director

South Dakota Licensed Beverage Dealers and Gaming Association
